Traffic Safety
Incidents with cars are still a leading cause of death and serious injury for school-age children, whether they’re walking, riding their bikes or being driven. Surprisingly, recent studies indicate that as many as two-thirds of drivers speed in school zones. You as the parent have the ultimate and primary responsible to ensure that your child(ren) is/are dropped off and picked up in a safe manner.
TO ENSURE SAFETY WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
-
Drive up to the very front of the drop off line – more cars are lining up behind you
-
Students should be dropped off/picked up in the cul de sac. This is the “kiss and drop” zone.
-
Students should be prepared with their backpack and lunch to hop out of the car in a safe and quick manner (backpacks and lunches should not be in the trunk).
-
Parents should remain in the car at all times.
-
Please pull as far forward as possible and let your child(ren) out at the curb.
-
Your car should be parallel to the curb and the tail end should not be sticking out.
-
Students must get out on the curb side of the car.
-
Please do not double park and have children run between cars.
-
When walking to the pick up area, please use the sidewalks and crosswalks.
-
Upper grade students can be picked up at a later time. The upper yard is open until 6pm.
-
Verbal abuse of traffic volunteers will not be tolerated. Remember, as a parent you are a role model for your child(ren).
REMEMBER:
-
Use common sense
-
To slow down
-
No minute saved is worth possible injury to others
-
All volunteers will strictly enforce the above safety rules.
-
Please be safe, cooperative & courteous.
